Picked up a few comics at a nearby junk shop today including New Fun #6. Not really heard of this one before - anybody know anything about it or if its worth anything? Only cost a fiver anyway so no loss

You just got yourself a very early DC Comic! It was renamed More Fun after that issue and would run to 121 issues. Some of those later issues featured Superboy.

I've just checked and the American issue #5 from August 1935 sold in the US last May for a whopping $1161 (£954)!! Whatever yours is worth, I think a fiver is a great price!

Denis Gifford would've loved that! Are there any publisher's details or adverts inside?

That's so good!
Overstreet lists the American #6 as having the 1st. Dr. Occult story, which is important as it's by Siegel & Shuster (signed as Leger & Reuths). So if this is a straight reprint it should have the Dr. Occult story as well. Also in the issue should be the 1st episode of Henri Duval, again by Siegel & Shuster.
If it's no trouble, could you let us know if it has those 2 stories, please?

Wow - sounds like I got myself a bargain! I might have to go back and see if there's any more.

In regards to the ads, besides your typical American comic book adverts the only thing of interest is the advert for 'The Big Book of Fun Comics'. This is all the issues of New Fun collected into one big book.

Published by National Allied Publications Inc. The date inside says October 1935, the U.S. date for the issue. All the adverts are American as well. All it looks like they've done is changed the front cover to have a different price and say 'British Empire Edition', and slapped in on, nothing else. All the prices inside are in dollars, U.S. addresses, U.S. dates for issues etc.

Yes, Dr. Occult and Henri Duval are both in there.

If people are interested I'm happy to take a few pictures to share here.

After a wee bit of haggling I have just bought the Skipper Annual from 1935.
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!

Yeah, they didn't even bother to change Colors to the British English spelling Colours at the bottom of the cover, so yeah, they obviously didn't alter the content.

National Allied is DC Comics - they renamed themselves later on of course, taking the name from Batman's famous Detective Comics title.

That could be worth offering to an American dealer or an auction house like Heritage as they might well count it as a previously unknown US variant that's even rarer than the cents copy (though the condition doesn't look great).

I've sent the above photo off to Heritage, just to see what they say. Will post the reply here.
